Sweden

During the Thirty years War Swedish army was one of the strongest in all Europe. Perfectly organized regular troops performed splendid military actions. Upon gaining rich financial support from France, they succesfully invaded German territory. That period closely relates to name of the great military reformator, Gustavus Adolf. He reorganized cavalry and infantry, while there was no more shooting for cavalry but more horse riding. Infantry regiments were diminished in number which made them more mobile. As a result Swedish army defeated Danish-Norway Kingdom. Swedish army invaded Poland, which was exhausted by long time of fighting with Russia and Poland, and took the capital Warsaw. In 1699 a coalition was created between Russia, Saxonia, Denmark and Poland against Sweden. This led to its defeat during the Northern war.
